EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH
“Einstein on the Beach” the 1976 four-and-a-half-hour opera directed by theatrical producer Robert Wilson and scored by Philip Glass. The opera eschews traditional narrative in favor of a formalist approach based on structured spaces laid out by Wilson in a series of storyboards.
“Einstein on the Beach” represents the apex of the early work of Mr. Glass and Mr. Wilson, and it played a crucial role in their careers. Mr. Glass has become the most popular of all contemporary composers, with a particular passion for opera.
“Einstein” opens first time after 20 years in New York for a 10-day run at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on September 14.
